I must say this has got to be one of the most powerful conferences I have ever been to when it comes to the Lord speaking to me through His Word & the various speakers. I went to give and teach and the Lord has used this to teach me and reaffirm my calling to me! I’m refreshed and ready to go.

My Russian has allowed me to go out on my own and travel to and from conference center by myself. Of course when you think you’ve “made it”, God likes to humble you. My first day here I was to meet everyone at the hotel for prayer (the Americans are staying at the Golden Ring Hotel but I chose to stay at church with some other Russians to save money and I like staying here anyways). Well somehow I misunderstood directions and walked a good 20 minutes in the wrong direction before stopping to ask a random Russian where the hotel was. I was way off and he wanted me to ride the bus with him. Well I knew at least where I was and the way back to the church so I declined. After getting back to the church, I was able to get ride with a missionary who happened to be at the church to there. I wasn’t too late and no one really worried…not sure if that is a sign they trust my Russian or just don’t care! Haha. I know my way around now and what buses to take so that saves on walking in cold.

I’ve also been blessed to hang out with a friend and mentor, Pastor Craig Hall from CC Fortuna CA. You can learn a lot from guys like him and he continues to inspire me to keep up with my Russian learning.

On the first day of the conference we watched a taped message from Pastor Rick Phelps from CC Lakewood, CA who has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He has been at everyone of these conferences and is missing his first one. Very moving as he may be in Heaven soon. It reminded me of Paul’s final letter to Timothy and his last words. Please pray for him and his fellowship.

Tomorrow is last day of the conference and I’ll be teaching the morning devotional section so please pray for His Word to continue to move mightily. After the conference I will spend a day in Sobinka serving and sharing. That town is dear to my heart and the brothers and sisters there are becoming like family I have seen them so much now.

Keep praying, the prayers don’t go unnoticed!

~Mike Massey (Майк Мэсси)

Today we loaded onto an old bus and rode up the mtn to a place called Mirador. 2/3 of the team helped with a VBS (100 children) and the rest of us helped with a construction project. The church there has land, but they have yet to build. Today we dug trenches for footers and carried a LOT of rocks… I mean… BIG ROCKS!!! We returned to Ariquipa in the afternoon, walked about 8 blocks for lunch, then returned to the park for another presentation and more evangelism. We gathered for a time of sharing over dinner and returned to the hostel around 9pm. Some of us were pretty filthy… the showers were great.

Tomorrow we’re returning to Mirador for more VBS and more Rocks. In the afternoon, we are going to a government run orphanage.

Everything is going well and everyone is healthy.

Ministry starts today. We will be hitting the streets to do some skits and evangelism this afternoon. Today is Peru’s Independence Celebration, so the people should be out and about.

Wow, what a day. We drove about an hour down the coast to another village today. The sights were astounding. Wave from the beautiful Caribean blue waters crashing on the sandy beaches. It is hard to believe that this country is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

When we stepped out of the trucks at the church today, the air was vibrant with the voices of children as they sang while waiting for us. As we entered the church, we were speachless. In a building about 30′x60′ were around 225 children, all eager with anticipation of our arrival. Every time one of the team members walked through the door and said “Bonjour”, the entire room errupted in unison with ”BONJOUR”.

Once we all assembled in the front of the room one of the children prayed. Then we began our welcome by saying “Hello” in 7 different languages, with the children echoing each one. Next, I was brought to tears as the children sang out in praise to God through song. I have never in my life seen such joy and excitement. I can’t wait to show the video.

We continued with sharing a the same Bible lesson we had shared in the previous churches during our trip, but we had to break the children into two groups because everyone could not reasonably fit into the building at the same time. Even after a group took half the children outside, and the remaining children spread out, they still filled up the building.

It was such an incredible display of the hunger these people have for God’s Word. As we left, we saw children 1/2 mile away walking home with the balloon hats that we had made for them.

We have all been changed. God has shown us that there is no physical need that we can fill for them. We see that we are the ones in need. Thier hunger for food helps them appreciate every cracker that they have. And thier hunger for God helps them appreciate every word of the Gospel that they receive. I have come to realize how lacking I am.

After we had some time to adjust this afternoon, we drove to the CCHI property and showed a film for the local children to come and see. It looks like we will have several more opportunities to minister to children in the days to come. They are so joyful when they see us, they smile, wave, and laugh at our attempts to say a few words in Creole.

So, here we go. We are all looking forward to what the Lord is going to use us for. Your prayers are greatly appreciated.

Praise the Lord for the faithful ones from our church who went to Russia. It is so good to hear your updates.

I also praise God for His protection here in Nepal. But, why does it seem like everytime husbands are away, lots of things go wrong? I know many can relate. I have heard you tell stories of all the things that happened especially when your husbands are on a trip for the Lord. Nanda has been gone 2 weeks of the month for the last 3 months. And it never seems to fail! The day before yesterday, Maya woke up with her eyes so swollen that she could not open them. She was saying that they hurt. I immediately took her to the Doctor, who told me to go to the hospital (the private doctor is usually faster, and I have found a good one.) So we went to the hospital, and after waiting for over 2 hours, Maya had to go to the bathroom. By this time, it has now been 3 hours since she woke up, and she still has NOT opened her eyes! So we’re in the bathroom and she suddenly opens her eyes. I brought her out and she says completely on her own, “Jesus healed me!” That is always so encouraging to me as a parent to know that she is getting it! So we still saw the doctor, since her eyes were still just a little swollen at that point. The doctor so wisely said that it’s either an infection or allergy and wrote for an antibiotic eye drop. I did not give her the med, because it is not an infection, no redness, no draining, etc. It is difficult to know here because the doctors don’t discuss much with you or even tell you what the medicine is for usually. I have to ask a lot of questions and research the internet. She was completely fine at that point and I think it was just an allergy, probably to dust.

Then, yesterday, I was hit by a motorcycle! Yes, Maya and I were walking, and thankfully I was holding Maya at that moment, and thankfully the guy was not going very fast. His front wheel hit the back of my leg and knocked us down to the ground. The sad thing is that he never even looked back! I am very thankful that we got out of that with just a bruise on the back of my leg, and Maya was hardly phased. I sat on the ground for a second after the fall just watching to see if the guy was going to stop and to collect myself, and Maya says, “Mommie, what happened?”

Oh and last week when Nanda was gone, Kumar got a really bad gash at school on his shin; I was afraid that he would get tetanus, so he got a shot and an antibiotic. So that has been my week so far since Nanda has been gone. At other times, we have run out of gas for cooking and had a hard time to get it; Maya fell on the steps and busted her chin open. In India, I got 3 reoccuring, extremely painful boils inside my ear when he was gone once. I know these are all just “life,” but it just makes things a little more difficult when you have to deal with them on your own. I elected to stay in today for fear of something else happening!

As I am writing this, there is a nice tune being played by a guy on a flute nearby. It is actually quite relaxing.

Just a reminder to lift each other up in prayer, especially the ones trying to “hold down the fort” while the spouse is gone!

“This has been a year of battle, but thank God, of
victory, and we are nearer the Crowning Day this morning than ever we were before.” (Amy Carmichael)

Looking forward to seeing all of our friends and family in a little over 2 weeks!

Lisa
